On August 2, 2018, in our Jewish Community Center, we hosted wonderful Friends from New York, Alan and Ann, who donated a unique gift for the Community - Atara for Torah.
During the visit of Alan and Ann in Poland and their trips in the footsteps of their ancestors, they were accompanied by a guide/translator, Mr. Tomasz Laskowski (www.PoznanTours.com), who is also the author of the photographs posted by us.

The Jewish Community in Poznań received a decorative shield. An unusual and beautiful gift was received by the Jewish Community in Poznań. This is a silver atara, or a special ornament, which is applied to the Torah.

The donors are representatives of the Jewish community in New York: Dr Alan Schramm, psychology lecturer at JohnJay College of Criminal Justic and Ann Adenbaum. They have been cooperating with the Poznań Jewish Community for two years.
This time they came to Poland, among others in order to participate in the International Genealogical Conference that lasted from yesterday. Its participants, over a thousand of whom came from different parts of the world, take part in lectures and presentations and discuss, among others, about searching for roots and their identity. Many of them will visit their family cities at the same time. And the family roots of Alan Schramma also reach Wielkopolska.

The organizer of the meeting, which is held for the first time in East-Central Europe is the Associtation of Jewish Genealogical Societies with the cooperation of the Jewish Historical Institute, the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the Supreme Directorate of the State Archives.
